Ermanno Santilli

Executive Biography (From

Mr. Santilli has invested over 15 years with Fortune 500 brands such as Club Car, Bobcat, Thermo King, and Trane at Ingersoll Rand Company. He has successfully stewarded global and international businesses with diverse teams of sales, marketing, engineering, sourcing, finance, and distribution. After graduating with a Bachelors of Science Degree from the prestigious Boston College Carroll School of Management, Mr. Santilli obtained a Masters of Business Administration from the Indiana University Kelley School of Management. More recently, Mr. Santilli founded MagneGas Europe where he became an expert in the MagneGas technology and business model and its various applications.

In addition, Mr. Santilli is an Executive Advisor to Q-Factory33, a Southern California technology incubator focused on energy and power markets.  He also serves on the Board of Posimoto Changing Faces, which is a Florida non-profit organization that develops and maintains role model/mentor based after school programs for disadvantaged youth.

Tampa-based MagneGas Corporation (NASDAQ: MNGA) is a technology Company that counts among its inventions a patented process that converts liquid wastes and renewables into hydrogen based fuels.

The Company currently sells MagneGas® into the metal working market as a faster, safer, and hotter replacement to acetylene. In addition, the Company is developing a variety of ancillary uses for MagneGas® fuels by utilizing its high flame temperature for co-combustion of hydrocarbon fuels and other advanced applications.

It is also selling equipment for the sterilization of bio-contaminated liquid waste (such as pig manure or leachates) for various industrial and agricultural markets.

Can you give us the “how, when and why” you started with the company?

Mr. Santilli’s father, a scientist at MIT, founded the company.  Given Mr. Santilli’s educational background coupled with his professional career at Ingersoll Rand. With his experience in managing interational businesses and the fact that he knew the technology very well made him a good candidate to take over MagneGas and transition the company from science to sales.    

What is the best job you have ever had?

Mr. Santilli answered “this one” because he loves disruptive technologies, especially those that can turn “waste into value”.

What is the worst job you have ever had?

The last few months at Ingersoll Rand, “People don’t leave jobs they leave bosses”.

What is your favorite food?

Columbian food (his wife is Columbian… smart answer).

Where is the most interesting place you have ever been?

Switzerland or China, although when he worked at Rand, he wanted to be transferred to India.  Interestingly enough, Mr. Santilli noted that he had spent so much time working outside of the United States, that he was probably missing out on some interesting places in the U.S. 

What book are you currently reading?

A Biography of George S. Patton (he is a fan of military books).

What is the best book you have ever read?

No Easy Day: The Firsthand Account of the Mission that Killed Osama Bin Laden.  

If you could go back in time and meet any historical figure, who would it be and why?

Gabriel García Márquez a Latin American writer, who Santilli describes as the “Hemmingway of Latin America”.  He aspires to Marquez’ vision and perspectives of life.

Give us the elevator pitch description of your business.

MagneGas is a NASDAQ listed public company developing and selling proprietary and patent protected green technology through three business lines that are all disruptive in the “waste to value” space.

What are the three biggest advantages your company possesses?

1)      A superior product.

2)      A product that is unique and patent protected.

3)      A fantastic sales team focused on providing customer service, which aside for a superior product, is a key differentiator in the industry.  

What are the three biggest challenges your company faces?

1)      Continuing to get the cost of their [product down.

2)      Continuing to overcome the markets’ resistance to change and/or providing the education and awareness to effect it. 

3)      The volatility of the stock.

Why should investors consider owning your company?

They have a product that is the best in the industry. They continue to make progress on one of their biggest challenges which is the cost of their product. (Over the past seven months they have reduced product costs by double digits). Their product(s) are disruptive and have the potential (and Mr. Santilli expects) to replace large and growing markets both domestically and internationally.
