Company Profile

Description

Visualant, Inc. is a Seattle, WA based company that is developing technology that uses light at the “photon” level to detect the unique digital “signature” of substances. The Company calls this its “ChromaID™” technology.

The Visualant Spectral Pattern Matching™ (SPM) technology directs structured light onto a substance or material, through a liquid, gas or off a surface, to capture a unique ChromaID™. A ChromaID can be used to identify, detect or diagnose markers invisible to the human eye. ChromaID scanner modules can be integrated into a variety of mobile or fixed-mount form factors. The patented, award-winning technology is disruptive, making it possible to effectively conduct analyses in the field that could only previously be performed by large and expensive lab-based tests.

Visualant has been focused on the development of its Chroma ID technology for most of the past decade, although in 2010, they acquired  TransTech Systems, Inc. as an adjunct to its business.

Transtech distributes  products and solutions for employee and personnel identification in government and the private sector, document authentication, access control, and radio frequency identification. TransTech provides these products and services, along with marketing and business development assistance to value-added resellers and system integrators throughout North America. Currently, TransTech provides nearly all of the Visualant’s revenues, and the division operates largely autonomously from the ChromaID side of the business, however, the Company believes that TransTech may ultimately provide significant distribution benefits for future ChromaID based products.

Succinctly, getting their promising technology to commercialization has to date proven challenging for Visualant.  That is a notion that anyone familiar with small technology companies will recognize.  However, over the past 60 days, in addition to attracting a fresh round of financing, Visualant signed an exclusive license agreement with Intellicheck Mobilisa (NYSE MKT:IDN),  granting Intellicheck exclusive rights to Visualant, Inc.’s proprietary Spectral Pattern Matching™ (SPM™) technology for specific homeland security, law enforcement and crime prevention applications. Intellicheck is an industry leader in threat identification, identity authentication, verification, and validation systems.  With respect to the arrangement, Itellicheck noted that they “expect commercialization of new ChromaID-based products will be transformative for a wide variety of clients who would benefit from this cutting-edge technology”.

This event may represent a considerable milestone for Visualant.  In addition to the above, the company holds a considerable patent portfolio as well, yet its fully diluted market cap is currently under $3 million.
